Urban Climate Solutions Tour

14 December 2009

- Sit back and enjoy the power of the good example at first hand!

Decades ago, Denmark recognised the need to protect the environment and to promote a sustainable development. Today, this means that Denmark is ahead on issues like renewable energy, energy efficiency, district heating, efficient public transportation and waste management. The systematic design and integration of these technologies into the overall infrastructure has enabled Danish economy to grow by 75 % over the last 25 years, while energy consumption has remained constant.

Get inspired by this unique energy model and some of the innovative climate adaptation initiatives on this three hour Urban Climate Solutions Tour on Ørestad, Copenhagen, hosted by the consultant engineering company Ramboll in association with CPH City and Port Development, The Metropolitan Copenhagen Heating Transmission company - known as CTR and the publicly owned environmental company, Vestforbrænding.

During the trip you can meet some of the decision makers, leaders and representatives of the different sites and technologies and enjoy a lunch at the SAS Radisson Hotel.

Programme
11.00 Pick up at the Ørestad Station
11.00 – 12.00 Visit and learn more about:

CTR
Providing the population with constant access to clean, cheap power and heating is a challenge that requires developing the energy infrastructure to encompass new energy sources. Efficient planning and the development of energy carriers to better distribute energy from renewable sources are key elements in the Denmarks unique energy model.

Vestforbrænding
By contrast to other countries, household waste and industrial waste is treated in one and the same waste system in Denmark, and local authorities are responsible for the system. Furthermore energy from waste incineration is used for CO2-neutral generation of power and heat, making this waste model one of the most sustainable waste management systems in the world.

City and Port Development
The overall plan for the development of Ørestad is that it is to be a green city section, constructed around water and nature. Maximum utilization of both the transport infrastructure (the Metro) and the energy infrastructure makes it a rolemodel for modern green urban planning.

Ramboll Head Office
The vision for Ramboll's new Head Office is that it should become a holistic and sustainable reference project. Ramboll's most experienced specialists in the field of sustainability have worked on getting as many sustainable solutions implemented in the project as possible. A special focus has been given to energy savings and creating the most optimal indoor climate along with other exciting measures.
